<div>Hello Everyone, My name is Damien Breen. I am a loving husband and father to 3 beautiful children, Lily (14), James (4) and Poppy (3). Roisin was a woman who was full of life and energy — until 8 months after our wedding everything changed in an instant. What started as fatigue, tiredness, and extreme paleness in April 2023, led to a devastating diagnosis: AML leukemia.

<div>Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is an aggressive form of blood cancer that progresses rapidly and requires immediate intensive treatment to get to remission. This requires prolonged hospital stays, rounds of chemotherapy, and a bone marrow transplant.

<div>Roisin was immediately rushed to Clonmel Hospital in April 2023, then transferred to Waterford where her diagnosis was confirmed. From there, she was sent to St. James Hospital in Dublin to begin her fight. While chemo has been necessary, it has also been incredibly hard on her body. She was in remission for over a year and then unfortunately the leukaemia returned. The doctors said that a bone marrow transplant offered Roisin the best chance at survival and she was very lucky to get a donor. The procedure for this took place on the 11th June 2025.

<div>Roisín is currently alone in St. James hospital after her transplant and is currently in a critical condition whereby she will need a lot of care in order for her to fully recover. I am in Tipperary trying to provide as best as I can for my family while also trying to support her. I am currently travelling from Tipperary to Dublin 2 days a week on my days off from work and placing our children into childcare 5 days a week in order to be able to do this.

<div>Going forward, Roisin will need accommodation in Dublin for a couple of months in order to be close to the hospital to recieve the care which she desperately needs.

<div>Fighting leukemia is not only physically and emotionally draining, it's financially overwhelming. Due to the severity of the diagnosis and the extensive treatment, Roisin will not be able to return to work. I will also be out of work for the weeks that she will be out of hospital and transferred to accommodation in Dublin to act as her carer. She will have to have around-the-clock care after being discharged from the hospital.
