Support Rocklin's Open Heart Surgery

Rocklin (Rock) Beaudrie (14) of Newburg, ND; after a routine sports physical on August 16, 2021, Rock's parents, Bob & Keari Beaudrie, were alerted by the medical provider that Rock had a heart murmur (caused by turbulent blood flow through the heart valves). This was a new diagnosis and in order to be cleared for sports, Rock needed to be seen by cardiology.

On September 7, 2021, Rock had a echocardiogram, which checks how your heart's chambers and valves are pumping through your heart. On September 8, 2021, Rock saw his cardiologist, Dr Taggart, and diagnosed with Ebstein Anomaly and Severe Tricuspid Regurgitation. Ebstein Anomaly is a rare heart defect in which parts of the tricuspid valve are abnormal and as a result, the valve does not work properly. The condition is congenital, meaning it is present at birth; however, it is not always found at birth and can be diagnosed later in life. Rock didn't have the typical symptoms one might see with Ebstein Anomaly except the murmur that was heard at his sports physical. Treatment for Ebstein Anomaly depends on the severity of the defect and the symptoms experienced.

On October 1, 2021, Rocklin is scheduled for open heart surgery at Mayo to repair his tricuspid valve . This is good news as the condition was caught early and it can be fixed! After 6 weeks of recovery from surgery, Rock will be able to return to normal activities, including sports which he loves, without any restrictions. Rock is involved in football, basketball, and track at Newburg. He also competes in AAU basketball on the ND Attack team each summer. He will of course have follow-up with his primary care provider and cardiology to be sure he is doing well but the outcome is looking good!

Bob & Keari have four other children at home; Colt (11), Kasen (9), Pierce (6), and Hayes (4). The actual amount of financial costs of open heart surgery and travel to Mayo is unknown and your support will help to relieve the worry and strain on this great family so they can focus on Rock's surgery and recovery.
