<div>Mi nombre es Rocío Campos Paz, fotógrafa documental freelance y estudiante de Psicología de España. Me traslado a Filadelfia, Estados Unidos, para documentar a través de una serie de fotografías en blanco y negro, escritura periodística y mi Tesis Final de Grado en Psicología la epidemia de opioides en Estados Unidos.

<div>From Painkillers to Fentanyl examina los efectos psicológicos del abuso de drogas en Estados Unidos, concretamente en Filadelfia, donde la pandemia del fentanilo parece haberse apoderado de la ciudad. Desde un enfoque humanista, este proyecto documental visual identifica a la población más vulnerable entre los drogadictos, que parece ser la comunidad afroamericana. La falta de acceso a la educación superior, a los servicios sanitarios y a la vivienda, así como la estigmatización de los consumidores de drogas, perpetúan un problema que es necesario abordar. Las precarias condiciones a las que se enfrentan estas poblaciones vulnerables junto con la adquisición de un trastorno por abuso de sustancias suelen ir acompañadas de la presencia de otras enfermedades mentales, un fenómeno conocido como diagnóstico dual, lo que hace que la recuperación y la reintegración en la sociedad sean altamente improbables. Una mirada a la compleja relación entre pobreza, abuso de sustancias y enfermedad mental es el tema central de From Painkillers to Fentanyl.

<div>Para llevar a cabo este proyecto, se necesita un presupuesto aproximado de 2.000 dólares. Esta cantidad de dinero se invertirá en una gran cantidad de película en blanco y negro, papel fotográfico, productos químicos de revelado, cámaras analógicas y diferentes objetivos. El resto del dinero está destinado a cubrir algunos gastos básicos (comida, transporte, etc.) durante mi estancia de cuatro meses en Filadelfia, lo que me permitiría trabajar a tiempo completo en el presente proyecto. Cualquier ayuda económica, contactos en Filadelfia, información sobre subvenciones de interés y demás sería muy apreciada.

<div>From Painkillers to Fentanyl examines the psychological effects of drug abuse in the United States, specifically in Philadelphia, where the fentanyl pandemic seems to have taken over the city. From a humanistic approach, this visual documentary project identifies the most vulnerable population among drug addicts, which seems to be the black community. The lack of access to higher education, health care and housing, as well as the stigmatization of drug users, perpetuate a problem that needs to be addressed. The precarious conditions that these vulnerable populations face along with the acquisition of a substance abuse disorder are usually accompanied by the presence of other mental illnesses, a phenomenon known as dual diagnosis, making recovery and reintegration into society highly unlikely. A glimpse into the complex relationship between poverty, substance abuse, and mental illness is the focus of From Painkillers to Fentanyl through a series of intimate portraits and journalistic pieces of writing.

<div><strong>﻿</strong>In order to carry out this project, a budget of approximately $2000 is required. This amount of money will be invested on a large amount of B&amp;W film, photographic paper, developing chemicals, analog cameras, and different lenses. The rest of the money is intended to cover some basic expenses (food, transportation, etc.) during my four-month stay in Philadelphia, which would allow me to work full-time on the present project.
