<div>My name is Jess and <strong>Renly is my BFF</strong>. On October 4th, Serenity called an ambulance and was taken to Mercy where she was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis. Necrotizing fasciitis is an aggressive flesh-eating bacteria. It started with a semi-simple diagnosis of cellulitis, which quickly turned into the flesh-eating bacteria.

<div>Renly's first surgery was at Mercy on Sunday, October 5th. The second was at Mercy again on Monday, October 6th, where the surgeon told us she needed a higher level of care.

<div>That afternoon, she was life-flighted to St. Francis in Tulsa. Tuesday morning, October 7th, she had her third surgery where they put in a wound vac.

<div>The wound vac changes didn't happen until Saturday, October 11th, where we learned just how massive her wound really was. The tech was very calm and gentle when removing the vac that was adhered to her insides. Once she got it out, she had to measure how deep inside it went. She used her hand because it was the easiest and gentlest way. It tunneled roughly 6-8 inches inside on her left side.

<div>We got to bring her home on Wednesday, October 22nd. Everything looked like we were heading in the right direction until the wound vac sprung a leak yesterday, October 26th. She went to Baptist where they were useless. Before she even got home, the vac was saying error and not working continuously, which is very bad. I decided I was just going to take her back to St. Francis. When we got to the ER here, they had a trauma surgeon look at her and she immediately said she needed surgery.

<div><strong>So here we are, Monday, October 27th, and the 4th surgery down.</strong> Her wound vac now includes about 8 inches on the left where the dead black skin popped up almost overnight. Baptist said it was normal and the skin under it was healthy....

<div>This entire ordeal has put Serenity's family (and mine) in a very tight financial bind. Renly doesn't want to be alone, which I understand, so I've stayed the majority of the time she's been here. All of our accounts have been drained from travel and food expenses.
</div>

<div>A little update: I got to bring Renly home, to my house on November 3rd. We were doing so well. I had antibiotic alarms. We never missed a dose. Then we went to wound vac change on Thursday, November 6th. I felt like it wasn't done properly, because I've seen it changed many, many times. I should have said something... So here we are Saturday, November 8th. It started leaking again. Then the machine started saying there was a blockage, canister was full, canister wasn't engaged... We went to our local ER thinking they'd just change her wound vac. Nope. The Dr. was very very helpful and asked if we wanted to be transferred to St. Francis for surgery. It's 1 am Sunday, November 9th and we are in a trauma room waiting to be admitting. Pease continue your thoughts and prayers.

<div>Another little update: November 11th and Renly just got back from her 5th surgery, 6th if you count the bedside procedure. A big section of her lower left abdomen got removed. The majority of the vertical incision had been stapled closed!! Progress!! This hasn't been nor will it be an easy road to recovery.

<div>Another update: It's December 3rd. Several days ago Renly was transferred to OSU. During a wound vac change the wound tech suggested a doctor that she thought could help. That doctor came in and said I can fix you. And she did. After 4 hours of watching everyone waiting get news from the doctors, her number on the screen finally said that she was in recovery. The dr told us later after surgery on December 2nd that she didn't think even with the wound vac she would ever heal. She took out loose skin and in fat. Gave her a nerve block inside so that she wouldn't be feeling as much pain, but it would slowly wear off over about 72 hours. It definitely is. This doctor sewed from hip to hip and put in three drains and a wound vac on the outside of her incision that will come off in 5 to 7 days when we will hopefully be able to bring Renly home!! She still has so much healing to do. Not only physically. We can finally see the light at the end of this tunnel. It's still just out of our reach... But we can see it!
