Support refugees through a cold winter

Recently the two of us have spent time supporting a wonderful charity called Roots in Dunkirk. Roots provide essential support to refugees in the area, from basic needs of water and sanitation, to pushing positivity in the form of a hub. The hub creates a space of warmth, wifi and electricity along with games giving children the right to play and adults a break from the hardships they are facing.

Roots have started a new project providing hot showers allowing people to feel fresh and dignified, a service many often take for granted. Whilst working in the camp we received lots of praise and gratitude for the hot showers, one mother mentioned how it was the first shower her child had in three weeks. However, such essential services like the showers will not be able to continue unless the organisation can find the finances to support the running costs.

At the present moment we are writing this, there are concerns the organisation might not have the funds to make it through the winter, hence our drive to start this gofundme page. Our experience here has shown us how much of an impact the smiles and energy from roots volunteers has, let alone the services provided. With regular evictions, amongst failed attempts of channel crossings, people here are living in constant fear and in really difficult conditions.
