My name is Prudence Bacon-Benson, and I was recently diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Stage 3 in my right breast, as well as Metastatic Ductal Carcinoma in the lymph nodes. This diagnosis has completely changed my life. Just a short time ago, I was healthy and working, but now I am facing months of chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy. I had to go on short-term disability, which only covers a portion of my income, and I haven’t even received my first check yet. The financial strain has been overwhelming, and my fiancé Doug has been doing everything he can to help, but we are both struggling to keep up with the mounting expenses.

 Everyday costs like rent, car payments, insurance, gas, food, and phone bills have become a huge challenge. On top of that, the co-pays for doctor visits and medications are adding up quickly. Doug has been paying for my prescriptions and even extra items to help with chemo side effects, but it’s getting harder for us to manage. We’ve reached out to agencies and foundations for help, but so many are closed or unable to assist right now. This situation has been mentally and emotionally exhausting, and there have been days filled with tears and uncertainty. But I am determined to fight this cancer and win, and I know that with support, I can get through this.
