Dear Friends,
I write with a very heavy heart and after hundreds of times of rethinking the consequences in terms of forever changing the relationship I have with each one of you. I am asking for help.
Some of you know my story; some of you know parts; others know nothing of it. Since 2012, my wife and I had lived with and supported my mom and oldest brother with cerebral palsy and quadriplegia. Last summer, they moved to Boston to live with my other brother. We unfortunately accumulated significant debt as I tried to support everyone and their medical needs in NYC for over 10 years.
We now have $223K in debt related to a public lien for back federal taxes (we are paying monthly to eliminate a ~$95K burden), NYS taxes, medical bills, unpaid loans, and credit card bills.
We have liquidated our retirement savings. This has unfortunately taken a toll on me personally; I am very sad to say that I had a suicide attempt in October averted at the last minute by police officers. I am receiving treatment, but I have been on a medical leave since October 30th.
I sincerely hope to re-enter medical practice in the coming weeks; I'd love to be unconstrained by worries related to money and just focus on taking care of people. I also want for Shri (our daughter) to not be worried about our situation. The adjustment to Montana has been difficult enough.
Thank you for considering. Any amount will help. My only ask is that you not forward this or share with others. I chose all of you on this thread because my intuition told me that you would not look down upon me; because you are highly empathetic.
I am very willing to disclose more specific details of the outstanding debt. And, I would like to commit to the following:
1. Once I am able, I will do my level 100% best to pay back everything received.
2. Complete transparency with copies of bills and debts paid sent to anyone who contributes.
Thank you for considering.
Much love and respect,
Prashant
