Support porters farming during coronavirus crisis

East African Voyage Ltd. is launching a community farming project for the porters of Kilimanjaro.
In Northern Tanzania, tourism is the main industry. As a result, the population depends on tourism for their survival. With the coronavirus crisis, borders are closed, all commercial flights are cancelled, all hotels are closed and there are no tourists. As a result, tourism is inexistent and the local people are suffering a lot from a lack of income.
The situation is getting very critical! Within weeks, people whose income depend on tourism won't be able to buy food. As you may know, the people with low income such as porters will be the first affected by the situation.
To help this situation, our trip leader Victor Kinyonga, who is part of the East African Voyage farming committee, offered his agriculture land to ensure food stability for the porters working with East African Voyage. With his help, we want to find an alternative source of income to the work of the porters to help them feed their family and produce a sustainable project.
The project will have four development phases:
1. Farming in Victor's land in Mbeya
2. Farming in a rented land in Babati
3. Farming in a rented land in Arusha
4. A poultry project in Arusha
This project is based on a cooperative movement style, which means the food harvested will be distributed equally between all porters who work on the project. A small pourcentage of the food harvested will go back to East African Voyage to be redistributed among the other porters who weren't able to participate in farming, but who still need assistance.
In the first ongoing phase, thanks to Victor, we already have 10 acres of agricultural land. It is located Mbeya, in the south of Tanzania, near a river. We now need your help to install a pump to irrigate the land, to get some agricultural material and to put seeds in the ground and create a sustainable community farm!
For the second and third phase, we already rented the lands in Babati and Arusha and they will be available from June onwards. The fourth phase will take place in Ngaramtoni in the outskirts of Arusha which is already available for free as it's partly owned by the directors of East African Voyage.
On our side, East African Voyage is already contributing to the general organization, to make sure there are professionals in the field of agriculture to monitor the land, and to transport and accommodate the porters while working on the project.
With your funds we will be able to help the porters to start grow food in hard times like these. Your support will save people from starvation and at the same time start the foundation for sustainable community farming!

Dans le nord de la Tanzanie, le tourisme est la principale industrie. Par conséquent, la population dépend du tourisme pour sa survie. Avec la crise du coronavirus, les frontières sont fermées, tous les vols commerciaux sont annulés, tous les hôtels sont fermés et il n'y a plus de touristes. En conséquence, le tourisme est inexistant et la population locale souffre beaucoup d'un manque de revenus.
La situation devient très critique ! Dans quelques semaines, les personnes dont les revenus dépendent du tourisme ne pourront plus acheter de nourriture. Comme vous le savez peut-être, les personnes à faibles revenus comme les porteurs seront les premières touchées par la situation.
Pour remédier à cette situation, notre chef de voyage Victor Kinyonga, qui fait partie du comité agricole de East African Voyage, a offert ses terres agricoles pour assurer la stabilité alimentaire des porteurs qui travaillent avec East African Voyage. Avec son aide, nous voulons trouver une source de revenus alternative au travail des porteurs pour les aider à nourrir leur famille et à réaliser un projet durable.
Le projet comportera quatre phases de développement :
1. Exploitation agricole sur les terres de Victor à Mbeya
2. Exploitation agricole sur un terrain loué à Babati
3. Exploitation agricole sur un terrain loué à Arusha
4. Un projet avicole à Arusha
Ce projet est basé sur un style de mouvement coopératif, ce qui signifie que la nourriture récoltée sera distribuée de manière égale entre tous les porteurs qui travaillent sur le projet. Un petit pourcentage de la nourriture récoltée retournera à East African Voyage pour être redistribuée entre les autres porteurs qui n'ont pas pu participer à l'agriculture, mais qui ont également besoin d'aide.
Dans la première phase en cours, grâce à Victor, nous disposons déjà de 10 acres de terres agricoles. Elle est située à Mbeya, dans le sud de la Tanzanie, près d'une rivière. Nous avons maintenant besoin de votre aide pour installer une pompe pour irriguer la terre, obtenir du matériel agricole, mettre des semences dans le sol et créer une ferme communautaire durable !
Pour la deuxième et la troisième phase, nous avons déjà loué les terres à Babati et Arusha et elles seront disponibles à partir de juin. La quatrième phase aura lieu à Ngaramtoni, dans la banlieue d'Arusha, qui est déjà disponible gratuitement, car elle appartient en partie aux directeurs de East African Voyage.
De notre côté, East African Voyage contribue déjà à l'organisation générale, à s'assurer qu'il y ait des professionnels dans le domaine de l'agriculture pour évaluer le terrain, et à transporter et loger les porteurs qui travaillent sur le projet.
Grâce à vos fonds, nous pourrons aider les porteurs à se lancer dans la culture de denrées alimentaires dans des périodes difficiles comme celle-ci. Votre soutien permettra de sauver des gens de la famine et, en même temps, de lancer la fondation d'une agriculture communautaire durable !
