Stroke Victim Desperately Needs your help!

Petirini is a 55 year old woman who loves to socialise, loves crocheting, loves find-a-words and loves getting out in her local community. Petirini lives in Armidale, NSW, Australia. Petirini sadly suffered a stroke when she was in her mid 30's and has had a permanent disability ever since that impacts her quality of life in every regard. She is supported by her younger sister, Toka, who gave up her full time job in the Health System and her life to care for her sister. Toka has also been diagnosed with Dystonia . Petirini has no other involvement from her family.

Petirini's story however is very unique to others in her situation. Petirini was born in the Cook Islands and travelled over to Australia to commence a new life early in 2003.  Petirini suffered a stroke 3 months into this move, resulting in her permanent disability. Petirini is not eligible for Australian citizenship and therefore not eligible to receive a pension or other supports. Toka has funded Petirini for the last 20 years paying for food, clothing, rent and medical expenses. It has only been recently that Petirini has gained funding under the National Disability Insurance Scheme which provides support for Petirini during the day, enabling Toka to work part time. This funding does not cover normal medical expenses, food, clothing, rent or normal living costs.

Petirini requires citizenship in order to get the Disability Support Pension which will enable her to rent a unit and through the supports provided by the NDIS live a supported independent life. This will allow Toka to get her life back, look after her own health and be free to be Petirini's sister and not her full time carer.

Without citizenship and the disability support pension it is a realistic fear that at some point in the near future Toka will no longer be able to support Petirini due to her own health and Petirini's increasing health needs.  The sisters have no outside assistance and do need some kindness from the public.

Toka has exhausted all avenues in search of getting citizenship, including appealing to all government bodies and all levels of government. Toka has also attempted to engage multiple free legal and disability services but to no avail.

Toka's plan now is to engage a immigration lawyer which will come at a substantial cost. This cost is what we are hoping to fundraise for. Legal fees will be in access of $5000. Additional funds will be used to assist Toka with ongoing medical costs.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Please consider supporting Petirini, even if it is just for a small amount. $5 or $10

Many Thanks
