Mental Wellness for Parents
Many parents’ first response might be, “I don’t have time to take for myself!” Or, “my needs are not as important as my child’s!” As they say on airplanes, people must put on their own mask before they help others. The same is true for mental wellness. We think that not only do you deserve to feel happy and healthy, you will be better able to care for others when they are thriving themselves.

In this program, parents will learn and then practice skills to cope with life stressors and improve mood and overall well-being. In fact, there are scientifically proven strategies that can help parents experience more joy, energy, and contentment and less sorrow, anger and anxiety. Mood Lifters, designed by a team of experts in mental health, brings these tools to parents.
This program is designed to help parents feel strong and in control, so they can create a healthier and happier life.

It’s important to note that Mood Lifters is not a replacement for, or a source of, professional therapy. It’s a mental wellness program that can be used alone or together with other forms of care, such as medication or psychotherapy. If parents are currently experiencing a severe mental illness, they most likely will need additional forms of care.

The Problem
86% of Americans will have a mental illness in their lifetime 20% will have a mental illness this year

Unfortunately, 70% of these individuals do not seek help. The most commonly reported barriers are desire to improve on one’s own, negative beliefs about therapy/mental illness (stigma), cost of sessions and availability of providers.
• Stigma–Research shows that almost nine out of ten individuals with mental health concerns say that discrimination and stigma negatively affects them.
• Cost–Traditional mental health services can cost more than $200 per session. Even with medical insurance, copays are approximately $25-$50 weekly or sessions are limited.
• Availability of providers–Waitlists are long. Some studies show that in urban areas people can wait up to 30 days for their first appointment. In the majority of rural communities, there are no mental health care providers.

Even those who seek support and are referred to traditional mental health care often fail to attend or quit treatment early. Difficulty accessing mental health support is further exacerbated during global health crises, like the COVID-19 pandemic, which require isolation.
