Support Our Shelton Police Officers

Dear Shelton,

Your Police Officers need help from you for a change. Years of retaliatory actions by the Administration of the City of Shelton have taken their toll, and we now have many Police Officers who have been suspended or terminated without just cause, who can no longer support their families or pay for basic expenses like food, rent, mortgages, health insurance, or medical bills. Meanwhile, the City continues to litigate against these officers, forcing them and their Union to incur legal expenses to fight for them to get their unjust suspensions and terminations overturned. Many of the officers who have been suspended or terminated without compensation are those who assumed Union leadership positions just recently. The City is clearly sending a message to the Police Union that anyone who dares to stand with the Union will be subjected to the most severe consequences, including loss of income and loss of career advancement opportunities.  

What can you do to help? Contribute whatever you can to this effort.  All funds raised through this campaign will be distributed to the officers who have lost wages and are sitting at home without pay, unable to support themselves and their families, or to paying the legal fees necessary to vindicate them and get them back on the job. Some of them have now had to resort to hiring private attorneys to help them, and these officers are not in a position to pay for these services without our help.  First priority will be given to making sure that every officer who has been on the wrong end of a retaliatory disciplinary act by the City is able to fund their basic expenses and support their families, and then to funding their legal fight against the City.

These are decorated officers who want to get back on the job, working for you.  They have done nothing to deserve this treatment from their City.  Please let them know that we, the citizens of Shelton, have their backs and will support them in their fight for what is right.  Every dollar you send to this campaign sends a strong message and supports our officers in regaining their jobs and keeping up the fight. UPDATED AGAIN: We want to make sure that people feel comfortable donating to this campaign, so we are adding this information about who we are as an organizing team.  Barbara Resnick is the attorney for the Shelton Police Union. She is handling all of the grievances filed by the Union with the State Labor Board on behalf of the officers who are being subjected to these retaliatory disciplinary actions. Chris Jones is a lifelong resident of Shelton, born and raised, and is like family to the officers who are being mistreated by the City administration.  Michelle Laubin is an attorney, a concerned resident of Shelton since 2006, and is a member of the Democratic Town Committee, as well as a member of the Board of Apportionment and Taxation.  Chris Jones is the designated (surrogate) beneficiary of the fundraising campaign dollars, and he is going to work with Barbara Resnick to review the situations of the officers affected and make sure that the money gets to the officers who have the greatest need.  We thank you for your confidence in us and for your generous donations to the affected officers.
