On Saturday 6th January 2018 Maddie’s Mum & Dad took Madison to Emergency after finding some unusual symptoms and realising Maddie wasn’t her usual self. After many tests and scans they have found out Maddie has Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (A.M.L). Unfortunately whilst in surgery due to the Leukaemia Maddie had a stroke and her vision has become impaired. We are praying everyday that she gets this back as this is obviously a big life adjustment for her amongst everything else.
As you can imagine Maddie’s Mum & Dad Christine Dattilo & Vic Malins along with her Grandparents Sue & Eugene & Uncle Mick are all absolutely devastated to receive this news and are still coming to terms with the shock of it all. Maddie in their eyes was the perfectly healthy child. Maddie lived to dance and came along to classes 3 to 4 days a week. She has been a part of our dance family since the very beginning of her life and we are going to miss not seeing her Bright Blue Eyes and contagious smile around the studio this year. She had only just done a heap of Christmas Performances in December. Although Maddie seemed a little run down that was normal for that time of the year for our kids. How does this just happen? This is totally unfair & we are all so very overwhelmed at the moment.
To be in a situation where your child is sick is understandably financially straining on the family. You still have mortgages to pay, bills to pay, hospital costs and the normal cost of living. Do you go to work or do you stay at the hospital? “Well the bills need to be paid so we have to work? We hadn’t planned for something like this to happen?”
Maddie’s family really need all the help they can get as this will not be temporary. They are already looking at being in P.M.H for most of this year, if not more.
We are all feeling so shocked and are sharing this beautiful families (who we hold very close to our hearts) sadness. If you can spare anything BIG or Small I KNOW it will be so appreciated by their family. Christine isn’t on Facebook at the moment and is purely focusing her time on Maddie. We would appreciate for now that you fully respect the family’s privacy and save messages for a later date. We don’t want her to be inundated when it’s already such a hard time. I’m sure when she feels ready along with Vic they will read their messages on here. If you wish to send cards feel free to drop to our dance studio and we can pass them onto her family to give to Maddie, Chris & Vic. I will update you with how Maddie is feeling & going when the family gives the ok.
For now we ask you all to keep LOTS of positive thoughts, prayers & well wishes for Maddie as she fights very hard to win this Battle. We love you Maddie <3 <3
