Help Us Save Our Hero — Our Dad and His Home
Our father Bruce Feeney, is fighting for his life after cancer, multiple surgeries, treatments, and the loss of his home to hurricane damage. We are desperate to give him a safe place to heal.
Our family is going through the hardest season of our lives. With humble, heavy hearts, we’re asking for help to save the man who has given us everything.
This past year has brought one heartache after another. Our father, the man who has always been our rock is now facing the biggest fight of his life: cancer and the loss of his home.
He has spent his entire life sacrificing for us — working long hours, often three jobs at once, caring for our visually impaired mother (his wife of nearly 50 years) all without complaint. He has always put everyone else’s needs before his own.
Almost overnight, our world was flipped upside down. While traveling to Massachusetts for his brother’s sudden passing, our father noticed pain and changes in his mouth. What he thought was a small sore turned out to be Oral Cancer. A diagnosis we never thought we would hear. Our lives shifted instantly from planning his peaceful retirement to urgent cancer treatment for this aggressive growing tumor.
In just a year, he has endured two additional tumor recurrences, three surgeries, including a grueling 13-hour procedure to remove part of his jaw and rebuild it with bone from his leg. This left him with a temporary tracheotomy, feeding tube, drains, an open flesh wound, loss of teeth and a skin graft. His insurance did not provide home health care, leaving my sister, mother and myself to care for him around the clock all while keeping up with full time working schedules and caring for our children.
After enduring 37 radiation sessions and multiple cycles of high-dose chemotherapy, he has developed significant post-treatment complications, including acute kidney injury and possible congestive heart failure. He remains hospitalized for close monitoring and management of these conditions. Despite these serious challenges, he continues to fight with the same strength and determination that has carried him through this entire journey.
As if he hadn’t endured enough - When my parents returned home to Florida last November for his additional treatments, we were hit with more devastation. Hurricane damage had caused hidden mold to spread throughout their home. By the time it was discovered, we were advised walls need to be torn out, rooms need to be rebuilt and personal belongings and furnishings were beyond repair, and the air unsafe to breathe. Insurance denied their claim, leaving my parents paying mortgage on a home they cannot live in all while medical bills continue to mount and unable to cover costs for restoration and reconstruction.
Despite everything, our dad continues to fight bravely. The road ahead is long as we pray his future PET Scan will reveal no sign of cancer residual or another recurrence, but knowing that people are standing with us gives us hope. Your generosity is helping us work toward giving him back a safe, livable home and easing the burden of ongoing medical costs to him and my mother while praying for a peaceful retirement he has earned and deserves after a lifetime of sacrifice.
