<div>Last year, having worked and saved for a number of years, we put an offer on a house for the first time. It was accepted. I very much took that as a sign that the universe wanted us to have that house as a reward for our sobriety and tenacity. The home inspection revealed minor issues; a ceiling that needed insulation, one side of foundation that needed covered on the outside by more earth, nothing we couldn't handle. We moved in September of 2023. Almost immediately, there were electrical issues to address and we discovered that the upstairs bath tub could not be used because it caused water to leak through the drywall below. Still, nothing we couldn't handle. Then, the basement took on water after a heavy rain. An issue the seller probably knew about before he had the basement finished. The carpet we had to pull up as a result had a manufacturing date of 5/2023 printed on the back. In February of this year, we financed a sump pump installation to remedy the issue. Moldy drywall was cut away, along with any flooring within a foot of the foundation perimeter. Much too soon after this, the HVAC system began to fail. We knew it was an older system but did not expect to have to replace it within our first year, during a record-breakingly hot summer. We purchased a pair of window units to try and cope for a while. Elden had to spend nights on the couch because his room upstairs was too hot. Ultimately, we got approved to finance the new HVAC system over three years. The monthly payments on that are going to be like having another large car payment. Even with our three incomes, our mortgage, the utilities, our vehicle, my medical stuff, Oliver's special needs (he's autistic and non-verbal), insurance, and now monthly payments for these emergency home repairs will leave very little for much else for a long while.

<div><strong>I'm starting this fundraiser for groceries, haircuts, medical co-pays, Rx, school supplies, etc., the things we expect to miss or struggle to get enough of during this time we will be paying off these repairs.</strong>
