 On June 18th, our dad's life changed unexpectedly.

 He went home during his lunch break after a normal morning at work. That afternoon, he developed severe back and abdominal pain and was taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a Type B aortic dissection, a life-threatening tear in the aorta. Before he could be transferred to a hospital with the specialists he needed, he lost all movement and sensation in his legs.

 He was eventually airlifted to Fresno, where doctors determined that the loss of blood flow to his spinal cord caused permanent damage. Our dad is now paralyzed from the waist down.

 Just a few weeks ago, he was working full-time in cabinetry. Today, he's in rehabilitation, learning how to adapt to life in a wheelchair.
</div>

</div>
<div>
 He will not be able to return to the trailer where he had been living because it isn't wheelchair accessible or suitable for someone with his medical needs. We are now trying to find accessible housing and make sure he has the care and equipment he'll need after he's discharged from the skilled nursing facility.

<div>
 Because he didn't have health insurance when this happened, our family has been navigating Emergency Medi-Cal, applying for disability benefits, and exploring every resource available to help him. Even with that assistance, there are many expenses that won't be covered.

 We're hoping to raise money to help with:

 Ese día regresó a casa durante su hora de comida después de una mañana normal de trabajo. Más tarde comenzó con un dolor intenso en la espalda y el abdomen y fue trasladado al hospital, donde los médicos le diagnosticaron una **disección aórtica tipo B**, una condición que pone en riesgo la vida.  Lamentablemente, ya no puede regresar al lugar donde vivía porque no es accesible para una persona en silla de ruedas ni cuenta con las condiciones necesarias para sus nuevas necesidades médicas. Ahora estamos buscando una vivienda accesible y tratando de asegurarnos de que tenga el cuidado y el equipo que necesitará cuando sea dado de alta del centro de rehabilitación.

 Como no tenía seguro médico cuando ocurrió esta emergencia, nuestra familia ha estado tramitando Emergency Medi-Cal, solicitando beneficios por discapacidad y buscando todos los recursos disponibles para ayudarlo. Aun así, hay muchos gastos que no estarán cubiertos.
