Hello, my name is Olive :)
13 years ago now I came out as non-binary, and after over 10 years of wanting and working towards getting top surgery it’s finally happening! March 3rd is my surgery date!
I need $350 for the surgery itself, and while my job offers short term disability for this procedure it only pays up to 60% of what I make now.
I bring home around $1,300 biweely. My monthly expenses amount to around 1,650 (this does not include things like food, toiletries, cat food and litter— only bills like rent, electric, phone, internet, etc.). 60% of my monthly pay is around $1,560, which is obviously less than my monthly expenses and leaves me with nothing to spend on those additional necessities.
Even if I can crowdfund at least $1,500 I think I could be comfortable. I’m only asking for $2,000 in the event that I may need more time off from work because of how little I can do post op.
I won’t be able to cook for myself or even shower for a while. It’s recommended to take off 4 weeks but post op recovery doesn’t stop there. I still won’t be able to do a lot at work once I return, and I work in retail where a lot of physical activity is required.
Anything helps. I’m so fortunate to have this opportunity and I know it’s a difficult time for so many people. Even sharing is helping me more than you know :)
