My grandmother, Sylvia Perez aka “ODG” has been my best friend since the day I was born.
Her no nonsense personality, hilarious one-liners, and lovable, frequent use of the F word have made her uniquely entertaining and delightfully engaging while earning the nickname “Ol’ Dirty Grandma” or “ODG” for short.
Long before social media had us all documenting our every move, I have been capturing abuela’s humorous antics and sharing them with friends and family. We hope that you have enjoyed these moments over the years and smiled, danced, twerked, and laughed along with us.
Today, I am sharing this message in the hopes that you might return some happiness to abuela as she has made so many of us so happy over the years.
The sad truth is my grandmother, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015, has just been advised by doctors that her cancer has metastasized into her brain, abdomen and kidneys. Currently, medicare covers 80% of her medical treatments, and our family has been working to cover the additional costs. I will be taking a family medical leave to help take care of her full time. She has been given 4 to 5 weeks to live.
