My strange familiar and best friend of almost a decade has been suffering from an illness the doctors cannot diagnose. For months, she has suffered from intense breathing issues. What we first thought was an infection didn't clear up. We moved on to possible heart disease, but her heart was cleared as perfectly healthy. Then we treated it as asthma because there were really no other leads. Her lab work continued to show no clear problems, so we are just taking guesses now. I've gotten second opinions and even third opinions from multiple teams of doctors and specialists in the Denver, Colorado area. Thousands of dollars and multiple different treatments later, I'm still at square one. Her current doctor has suggested an endotracheal wash to possibly get a diagnostic. The procedure will require her to be sedated, and it will be done by a very experienced DVM and a full team of care. Every day I feel her get weaker, I'm maxing myself out as my final try to find a cure for my sweet baby. She is only 13, but I know she has so much more love and time to come.
