Support Navy in Political Science

My name is Navy Widyani, and I need urgent financial support. By January 11th, 2021, I need to pay for a full spring semester to be able to start my studies at Eastern Mennonite University, which I am short of $6,000, as of now. In the long run, I need donors who would like to be part of my journey in finishing my undergraduate studies. I am born and raised in Indonesia, which means that as an international student in the US, I am unable to work off-campus or acquire a loan to pay for my schooling. For these reasons, I rely on my faith in God and the generous people who are led.
I graduated Hesston College in May 2020 with an associatedegree in art, transferred to Indiana Wesleyan University in August 2020 to pursue a bachelor's degree in music therapy, then around October 2020, I became extremely stressed and dysfunctional. So, I met with an on-campus counselor, and shehelped me realize that I just am not built to work with music, yet I should hold on to working with mental health. She also pointed out to me my strong passion for restorative justice and my ability to empathize and be assertive.
Because of what happened, I felt the need to intentionally find God’s calling for me. I had meetings over zoom with my academic advisor/music therapy professor, a life-calling and career coach, my mentors, and a few of my trusted friends. They made me conscious of my innate desire to make changes in the aspects of social movements, human relations, and human dignity. God made apparent my longing to release people out of the mental health struggles caused by faulty legal systems we currently have in every part of the world. I became confident in potentially becoming a lawyer, working in public relations, and partnering with the United Nations.
God affirmed me without my asking. One friend told me that I "fight injustice with a fierce yet kind spirit." Another friend told me that when they first met me, they thought I should pursue restorative justice. Even when I told a random mailman at IWU that I am considering political science, they immediately said, "the world needs you who has a genuine heart and capacity to make significant changes." And one of my professors at IWU told me they notice how I always talk about the relationship between mental health and the legal system.
As things progressed, Eastern Mennonite University came across my mind, and I found that incredibly interesting because while I was still at Hesston College, something inside of me felt like I should transfer to EMU after finishing Hesston. I visited EMU in the fall of 2019. I genuinely love the campus, community, culture, and most of all, I remembered how they are known for their Christian view on politics and their long history with peace-work. The only reason I did not transfer to EMU right away and rather transferred to IWU is because of music therapy.
Nevertheless, I would not be where I am right now, without IWU. I became part of an awesome community that strives to always put God first, my perspectives are widened through the classes I took, and I discovered God’s calling with the help of the friends, professors, counselor, and coach at IWU. My purpose in life became clearer because of my time at IWU.
Next thing I know, I met with a political science professor at IWU and a political science professor at EMU-- to compare. The political science professor at IWU firmly told me that because I am a junior in university, they cannot help me finish my bachelor's degree in political science, at a reasonable time. IWU's political science program is small and thus limited. They also told me that their curriculum focuses on American politics, American government, and American law. The political science professor at EMU told me that I am more than able to finish at a reasonable time because EMU's political science program is catered to satisfy whatever a student wants to learn, which means they have a few main courses that are mandatory and the rest can be chosen from a wide range of options. From the start of our conversation, they told me that their curriculum focuses on the theology of peace and justice, and I know it to be true because I have heard about MJ Sharp who graduated from EMU, worked for the United Nations, and got wrongfully murdered during the process of seeking peace and justice among the people of Congo. Also, I have heard about Leymah Gbowee who graduated from EMU and is one of the three women jointly awarded the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize. Last but not least, IWU does not have a set internship program, whereas EMU has a set internship program for the last semester before earning a bachelor's degree to go to the Washington Community Scholar's Center at Washington D.C.
As of now, I have been accepted at EMU to study political science, and I plan to start on January 15th, 2021. Since I have acquired an associate degree from Hesston College and one full semester from IWU, I have 3 semesters left to complete my undergraduate studies. Thus, I am looking for donors who can support me to earn my bachelor’s degree in political science from EMU. Most importantly for now, I need help in paying the $6,000 that I am short of by January 11th, 2021 to be able to start.
