Support Nathan's Recovery - Meningococcal Encephalitis
Donation protected
Nathan had been sick with the flu for a week. The symptoms started on March 30th. He was feeling better for about two days, but he started feeling unwell again on April 8th.
Nathan had reached out to his mom, Kimberly, so she could take him to be seen and evaluated. Nathan had been incontinent for roughly 24 hours at this point. He was experiencing unsteadiness, headache, fever of 102°F+, and other symptoms. On April 8th, Nathan and his mom, Kimberly, arrived at a NOW Care in Missoula, who then sent him to the Emergency Room.
Kimberly and Nathan arrived at St. Pats hospital, and Nathan was promptly seen. Multiple tests were run, including MRIs and lumbar taps. It was concluded that Nathan had Aseptic Viral Meningitis.
Nathan seemed to be on an upswing yesterday, the 9th, but today his condition is declining. Nathan is 20 years old; his 21st birthday is next month. Nathan has a network of people who love and care about him. His mom, Kimberly, his brother, Tim, his cousins, his uncle, and other family are distraught at this time.
If you can donate to help Nathan and his family during this time, help would be greatly appreciated. Prayers are always welcome and cherished.
Nathan will recover, he is a strong young man!
We all love you, Nathan!
I’m Nathan’s former aunt by marriage, but he will always be my nephew. Kimberly will always be my sister-in-law. They can use all the help they can get at this point. Below, I will share the updates she has shared on Facebook with friends and family to keep everyone posted.
8. 4/11 5:30pmCT: Kimberly spoke to the specialist from Infectious Disease and he says they have no idea what is causing this, so they are treating everything they can think of. In the meantime, Nathan just went up for another spinal tap to relieve the pressure in his brain. He is still sedated and intubated and they have added a feeding tube.
7. 4/11 11:44amCT: Nathan has been intubated and put on a broad spread of antibiotics and antivirals. They are waiting on the results of his MRI and CT Scan. Thank you all for your continued support and prayers.
6. 4/11 9amCT: Nathan stopped breathing, they are intubating him.
5. 4/10: Update on Nathan: He has been moved to the ICU at St. Patrick Hospital. They completed the 2nd lumbar puncture and have found more virus in his brain. They have put him on antivirals and will be closely monitoring him thru out the night. They will call with any updates. Thank you all for your continued prayers.
4. 4/10: Update: They are moving him to ICU, the swelling in his brain is getting worse.
As of this morning, Nathan's condition is getting worse, not better, and they don't know why. They will be doing 2 more MRIs and another Lumbar Puncture this afternoon. Please keep him in your prayers.
3. 4/9: Nathan is doing much better today. He still has some confusion and can't get out of bed on his own yet, but his speech is better and his tremors aren't as bad. He will be staying at St. Patrick Hospital for another night as they will be performing two more MRIs today. Thank you all for your support and prayers.
This has been a truly terrifying experience for all of us.
2. 4/8: Update #2: after two MRIs and a lumbar puncture they have decided that Nathan has Aseptic Viral Meningitis. They are checking him into St. Patrick's Hospital for the night for observation and treatment.
1. 4/8: Update on Nathan - they have him on an IV and catheter and are keeping him overnight to run multiple MRis to try and find the problem. In the meantime he has lost his ability to walk and talk properly. I will keep you a updated as information becomes available. Thank you for your continued prayers.
