Friday night, our 4 1/2-year-old male dachshund, Nacho, sustained a lower back injury/sprain after innocently attempting to readjust himself on our bed! We are not sure how or why this happened so suddenly, but when we took him in the next morning, the vet mentioned it was common for their breed. We were given medication and sent home. He may be suffering from undiagnosed IVDD and possibly needing lower back surgery soon. He has not shown improvement since Friday night! He takes small steps and frequent breaks because he is unable to stand for long. Nacho has opted to dragging the lower half of his body and only using his two front legs to move around. This has caused what i believe to be a urinary tract infection. We have an inflatable cone on his neck now to prevent him from licking down there.
