<div>My wife, Nabeela, is a remarkable woman with an infectious smile, and she has my heart. We immigrated to Canada in 2022, excited to build a new life in Toronto. But on October 30, 2023, our lives took a sudden turn when she got diagnosed with a rare form of Breast Cancer, Stage 3-c (Advanced) Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, also called Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. She started chemotherapy in December, and her treatment is ongoing. Unfortunately, the extensive treatment regimen comes with some very challenging side effects like severe skin rash causing constant itch, tremendous weakness and fatigue, brain fog, and neuropathy (incapacitating numbness in her extremities, i.e. fingers and toes). This fight has been physically and emotionally draining for both of us. Impending on us is her mastectomy surgery in July and following radiotherapy if all goes as expected by the doctors. The treatment is expected to carry on till December.

<div>Nabeela, the heart and soul of our family, is known to be the person who is always there to support the people who know her. She is kind, helpful, and loving, a humble person with an incredible zest for life, brightening up the lives of the people around her. She is also the sole earner here while I settle into Canada and search for work. As the treatment made her unfit to work, upon consulting with the care team, she took a leave from her job in December. However, the income from her disability benefits is insufficient to cover our expenses. While we are exceedingly grateful for Canada's healthcare system covering the treatment, the weight of supplementary medication and other living costs falls on us. Since we have no family here, I am her only caregiver, putting my job search or ability to commit anywhere on hold. This unexpected situation has left us with minimal funds, barely enough to last until May.
