<div>I’m writing this with tears in my eyes and a heavy heart. Asking for help is not easy for me, but we truly need the world’s support right now.

<div>My name is Spanisha , and I am the mother of my beautiful, strong 3-year-old son, My’lo, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) shortly after his third birthday. Along with leukemia, My’lo was also diagnosed with pericardial effusion, fluid around his heart. Nothing prepares you for hearing those words about your child.

<div>We are currently in Kentucky, far from home, and originally from Georgia. Our support system here is very limited. This journey has turned our lives upside down, not only for My’lo, but also for my daughter, who is watching her baby brother fight battles no child should ever have to face.
</div>

<div>My’lo is the strongest, bravest, most caring little boy. He was so excited to start kindergarten—his very first year—but instead, he has spent his days in hospital rooms, enduring intense chemotherapy and procedures. All we want is to see him get better so we can go home and try to find a sense of normal again, even though “normal” no longer feels the same. We know this will be a long journey.

<div>To care for My’lo full-time, I had to quit my job. Because I had just started that job shortly before his diagnosis, I did not qualify for FMLA. Just days before his diagnosis, we had also moved into a new home from a different city. Overnight, everything changed.

</div>
<div>We receive treatment in another state because our local facility do not have the equipment or resources needed for My’lo’s treatment, especially on the bone marrow transplant side. Since then, we have been in and out of the hospital for extended periods—sometimes for months at a time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>

<div>Updates on My’lo’s Journey

<div>We received heartbreaking news that My’lo did not respond to his initial induction phase of treatment. We immediately moved forward with the consolidation phase, which is a second-line option. Unfortunately, even after consolidation, we had not reached remission. Options are limited with the type of leukemia My’lo has, and we ask for continued prayers, hope, and shared experiences from anyone who has walked this journey before.

<div>At this point, we had already been hospitalized for six months, with more time ahead.

<div>We finally reached remission, but because My’lo’s cancer was extremely difficult to control, a bone marrow transplant is necessary. We are preparing for another hospital admission lasting three to four months. All funds continue to help with lodging, food, gas, and medical necessities.

<div>My’lo received his bone marrow transplant, along with radiation and very high doses of chemotherapy. He is now recovering, but we must remain inpatient for an additional three months for close monitoring.

<div>We transitioned to Ronald McDonald House for what we hoped would be two months, but unfortunately, My’lo developed a virus post-transplant and began experiencing skin GVHD, a life-threatening complication. We were readmitted to the hospital.

<div>We returned to the hospital again due to gut GVHD.
</div>

<div>We are currently home, but My’lo is now facing another severe complication: GVHD of the gut and liver. His liver test results over the last few months have been terrifying. On top of this, insurance has begun giving our medical team difficulties approving life-saving medications that My’lo urgently needs.
</div>

<div>We are still in dire need of assistance. We have fallen behind on many expenses, and this fight is far from over.
</div>
