<div>We are reaching out as a family for support in raising funds for our mother, Meenakshi’s medical treatment and surgeries in Surrey (BC), Canada.

<div>Our mother has been in the Surrey Memorial hospital in Critical Care Unit since April 21st, 2023. She was visiting us (her son’s family), when she contracted severe bacterial infection in her bloodstream, which led to Septicaemia (blood poisoning) in her body. She was in coma for more than 2 weeks with critically low blood pressure and multiple organ failure. Unfortunately, as a consequence of the prolonged low blood pressure and strong medication, she suffered from the loss of blood supply to all 20 fingers/toes and feet.

<div>Doctors have informed us that <strong>amputation (surgical removal) of limbs</strong> is the only viable option to prevent further complications and potential life-threatening infections. Since getting out of coma, she is <strong>immobile</strong>, on <strong>dialysis</strong> and fighting various infections such as <strong>pneumonia, internal bleeding</strong> etc.

<div>As a cancer survivor, with all these complications her recovery will be a long and arduous journey, involving long term medical and nursing care, surgeries, possible prosthetics, rehabilitation and occupational therapies.
</div>

<div>As an <strong>Indian citizen visiting Canada</strong>, she is not covered in Canadian government’s medical care. The medical expenses for her ongoing treatment and the necessary surgeries are overwhelming and traveller medical insurance coverage of CA $150,000 has already been exhausted. We are reaching out to the larger community for raising funds to contribute for her continued medical expenses and long term post-surgical care.

<div>Compassionate, kind, giving and eternally positive, our mother has been a bright light to so many. A state level hockey player, she completed her masters in music and has always been a very active person. She contributed to society through her long career as a teacher and social worker. She is the source of strength and energy to our entire family.
