Hi Everyone! My name is Sophia McConnaughey, and I’m a 16-year-old jazz musician from Lake Brantley High School. I play bass in my school’s jazz band, and I’m passionate about keeping the spirit of jazz alive. However, one of the most essential instruments for a jazz bassist is an upright bass, and unfortunately, I don’t have the funds to afford one. Playing upright bass would not only improve my ability to perform in my school’s jazz band, but it would also open doors for future opportunities, including college auditions, professional gigs, and even my dream of joining the Air Force Band. Jazz is more than just music to me, it’s my passion, my future, and the way I connect with others.

An upright bass typically costs anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000, depending on the brand and quality, and I’m hoping to raise enough to get one that will help me grow as a musician.
