Support My Indigenous Film @ HotDocs2019 & Beyond

My documentary film, Life in the City of Dirty Water, was just accepted into the Hot Docs International Film Festival and will premiere on May 1st! Buy tickets My team and I need your support to get to the festival and to use this incredible opportunity to launch a series of community film screenings and a transmedia speaking tour.

This project is far more than a film. It’s a book, a multimedia performance, visual art pieces, story telling vignettes, and a teaching toolkit. Life in the City of Dirty Water is the story of my connection to the city of Winnipeg, which in my Cree language means murky or muddy water.  It’s a conversation about decolonization and a process of facing and surviving trauma rooted in colonial violence.

Stories connect us to the sacredness of place. It is my hope that, in sharing this collection of stories about growing up Indigenous in one of Canada’s inner cities, others may find the courage to share their own experiences and try to heal from the wounds of colonial violence.

I have an incredible team that I have been working with for four years producing Life in the City of Dirty Water. We need resources to travel to and fully participate in the Hot Docs International Film Festival for the global premiere of the film and to resource the promotions around this global event to showcase not only the film, but the broader transmedia story project. Following the Hot Docs festival, we will be launching a series of community screenings and a transmedia speaking tour to reach Indigenous nations across Turtle Island.

Your support will help us give national exposure to this grassroots Indigenous new media project and the important themes around confronting colonial violence and healing that it explores. Reconciliation is only possible through forgiveness from overcoming trauma.

The production team of Life in the City of Dirty Water is deeply grateful for your ongoing support of our transmedia project. Facebook Event
