<div>We are supporting mothers and daughters in a rural village to manage their periods safely by providing them with reusable period pads and menstrual health education. We are creating a sustainable project by training the local nurses and teachers to deliver menstrual health education and working with the local sewing centre to teach a group of 25 women to make the pads - allowing for distributions to continue beyond our trip. The pads last at least five years providing a long-term solution to period poverty, allowing women and girls to go to work and school during their periods and prevent them from developing infections from using inappropriate products.

<div>Our needs assessments found that over 60% of women and girls have had infections from not using safe period products or from overusing them due to the expense and nearly 40% miss work or school due to period poverty. During our first menstrual health session very few of the young girls knew about periods, showing how necessary this work is.
