My name is Jocelyn and I am a pharmacy manager at a large chain retail pharmacy. One of the front store associates, Ms. Rebecca, has been with the company for 4 years and was facing a layoff last year due to the company cutting hours. I refused to see her unemployed so I took it upon myself to over schedule and add her to my pharmacy payroll because I absolutely love my staff and always want the best for them, especially my elders. Ms. Rebecca is a 70 year old woman who has to unfortunately work because her SSI check does not cover anything but her major bills. The small checks she would get from working in the pharmacy is how she got groceries, gas, and anything else she might have needed. At 70 years old she still HAS to work. A year ago in November Ms. Rebecca underwent a surgery to remove a stage 3 melanoma on her left shoulder. A few months ago she noticed a mole growing right next to the surgical site and asked her doctor for another PET scan. Her doctor told her that she did not qualify because after her surgery when everything came back normal she opted out of taking chemo. A month ago she started seeing a new oncologist who expressed to her that this was not true and scheduled a scan for her on December 30,2025 which was the earliest date available. The Sunday before Thanksgiving, Ms. Rebecca came to work complaining of a headache that would not go away and stated that she was confused and got lost coming to work making 2 wrong turns, she was dizzy, and her perception was off. I immediately told her to go to the hospital and be seen and she left work. She ended up going to her doctor and was being treated for a sinus infection. I went on vacation the next day, Monday-Sunday of Thanksgiving week. I made aware on Monday (12/1) that Ms. Rebecca tried to come work her shift on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and got into a car accident on her way there. She said that once again her vision was off and she felt confused. She arrived at the hospital and had test run. She was diagnosed with metastatic brain cancer with 7 lesions imbedded in her brain that is inoperable. I was crushed because I think of her as a motherly figure. I was only gone a week and all of this happened. I immediately went to see her Monday and have spoken to her everyday since. She is so worried about her finances and how she will survive with getting necessities and other things while going through her radiation treatments. She keeps saying she needs to work but she knows that she can’t anymore. I am making this in an attempt to ease some of her burdens. It hurts my feelings that someone of her age has to continue to work anyway just to thrive but now that’s not an option for her. I want her to simply focus on her health and getting through her radiation treatments without having to worry about money. If you guys can donate anything it will be greatly appreciated. If you believe in prayer please pray for her as well. #RebeccaStrong
