This is Bakeneko Collective fundraising for Miwachan to get gender affirming surgery!
Miwachan is a transgender Filipina detainee woman in Japan who has been organizing for detainee survival throughout COVID19 with supporting groups. After facing intense pressure from refugees and migrants held in Japanese detention centers and advocacy groups like #FreeUshiku, Smash Nyukan, Free Pat and All Migrant Detainees in Japan, and No Detention Yes Life, the Japanese government released many detainees from its immigration centers in 2020-21. But even after being released from these racist institutions, detainees aren’t allowed to work, can’t move between prefectures without permission from the Immigration Office, and don’t qualify for any government aid. Bakeneko has been fundraising to support Miwachan’s living costs since March 2020 to support her survival and organizing work under these conditions.
Today, we are fundraising for an important part of Miwachan’s life that is deeply connected with immigration and detention issues. After many years of considering gender affirming surgery, Miwachan has decided to move forward with making this part of her transition. She says
“I was a woman whose born in a different body. This surgery makes me feel more confident and totally woman physically and emotionally. Although And the trauma i had from Nyukan is serious, it made me more stronger and be confident that im a reall woman what ever discrimination i had from previous year in both Japan and Philippines.”

SURGERY: This will cover the surgery and appointments leading up to the surgery. Miwa-chan has completed the GID diagnosis and has an appointment with the clinic later this month. These costs may change in case the clinic adjusts any billing after her consultation.
RECOVERY: It usually takes 3 months of rest to recover from gender affirming surgery. The hotel stay is mandated by the hospital for her first week of recovery. Miwachan plans to stay with a friend after this time, but will need funds for food, medicine, transportation for her friend to come and care for her. These cost estimates may change depending on circumstances.

2020〜21年日本の入国管理庁は、収容している難民や移民や、入管問題に声を上げる個人・グループや弁護士、政治家など多くの働きかけによって、多くの難民・移民を収容所から解放しました。しかし彼らは、このように外国籍を持つ人を敵視するような人種差別的な施設から解放されても、依然就労することができず、入管の許可なしに県境を越えて移動することもできません。私たちは2020年3月以来、そんな状況にあるみわちゃんの生活を支援するために募金活動を行なっています。
この募金活動を支えていただくことは、みわちゃんの人生の中で、また社会においても、移民や収容の問題に深く関わる重要なものです。みわちゃんは、長年、性別適合手術を検討してきましたが、この度、性別適合手術を行うことを決意しました。彼女は次のように語っています。
「私は異なる体をもって生まれた女性です。手術を受けることで、もっと自信を持てるようになり、身体的にも気持ち的にも完全な女性になれます。入管で経験したトランスジェンダー差別は本当に辛くトラウマになっており、もうあんな経験をしたくありません。しかしそれを経て、今まで日本やフィリピンで受けた差別がどうであれ、自分は女性であると、もっと強く、自信を持って思うようになりました。この手術を受けることで、長い間考えていた人生の重要なステップを踏み出すことができます。」

手術：手術・手術までの健康診断などの医療費です。性同一性障害の診断は受け、今月末に検診が予定されています。手術費用はパトちゃんが希望する術式の金額を記載していますが、実際に手術を受けるクリニックの診断後、金額が変わる可能性もあります。
回復：性別適合手術を受けた後、交通費・食費・その他回復に必要な費用。回復するまで３ヶ月間かかります。ホテル代は治療後必須となるもので、一週間の宿泊が予定されています。その後、友人宅に住みながら回復期間を過ごす予定です。こちらも状況によって費用が変わる可能性があります。
