Support Mitch and Tina

As so many of us can attest to, Mitch Wheeler has gone through life with a smile and an unfailingly positive attitude. He has a naturally happy disposition that is contagious and brightens up everyone around him. Growing up on a farm fostered Mitch’s love for the outdoors and he is passionate about dirt biking, snowboarding, and any other activities that get him outside with friends. As the result of a terrible accident while mountain biking at Sun Peaks on July 26, Mitch broke his back. After a brutal crash, Mitch found himself conscious but in extreme pain on the ground trying to breathe. His friend riding with him found him with broken teeth, cuts all over his face and arms, and no feeling from his chest down. After minutes that seemed like hours, first aid arrived and Mitch was carried to a transport that took him down to the helicopter where he was rushed to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. Stabilized and bandaged, he was flown to Vancouver General Hospital where a team of experts performed surgery on his back. Katrina, Mitch’s fiancé, was doing her nursing practicum in Prince George when she heard about the accident. She drove all night to meet Mitch at VGH. After 5-6 hours of surgery, Mitch’s back was finally sewn back together. The surgeons were happy with the surgery but, although he continues to make strides in his recovery at VGH, Mitch is still paralyzed from the chest down. 

 

The money raised through this campaign will help mitigate the expenses that Mitch and Tina will incur over the coming months. It is important that Mitch is able to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation without worrying about financial strain. Tina has played a vital role in Mitch’s recovery and the money raised will help facilitate her ability to stay in Vancouver so she can continue to love, assist, and support him. The funds will also help Mitch obtain the best possible treatment throughout his recovery and for the equipment that he will require due to the severity of his injury.
