<div>On November 19th, 2025, Misty Montoya went into pulmonary cardiac arrest at Montrose Regional Hospital. The medical team performed CPR for 30-40 minutes, and by the grace of God and the sound of her husband Chris’s voice, she came back to us. Misty spent a week in the ICU before being transferred by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she underwent surgery to have a defibrillator placed in her chest. After nine days, she was released to go home, but just two weeks later, on December 18th, she was rushed back to the hospital with severe chest pain. She was immediately flown by medical helicopter to St. Mary’s, where doctors discovered she was suffering from an aortic dissection. Misty was taken straight into an open heart procedure, where her chances of survival were slim and time was critical. After a grueling eight-hour surgery, the doctors were able to replace a valve and repair her aorta.

<div> As of January 8, 2026, Misty has been in the St. Mary’s ICU for three weeks and faces a long road ahead as she learns everything over again. Her husband, Chris Montoya, has not left her side. He has been placed on FAMLI, which provides a little help, but it is nowhere near enough for them to survive. Misty has also been denied Medicaid multiple times. With Chris unable to work his full-time job and medical bills piling up, life is starting to feel unattainable for their family.
