To know Miriah is to love her, and to be loved by Miriah is a gift.
Miriah Phillips is generous and gentle, sarcastic and funny - the ultimate definition of an amazing friend. She is a kind-hearted, hard-working, live-music-loving soul who is a devoted Daughter, Friend and Sister to so many.
But at 33 years old, Miriah’s world flipped upside down when she finally received the answer to a months long question - Cancer.
A Journey for Answers
Since the start of this year, Miriah began experiencing unusual and troubling symptoms. Despite countless appointments with doctors and specialists, from hematologists, dermatologists, immunologists and more, the answers never came. Each test and scan only brought more confusion.
Things began to change in June when she sought a second opinion at Aspirus in Waupaca. They listened, saw her health was deteriorating, and knew immediate action was needed. Her referral to UW Madison Hospital was a turning point and a miracle of timing. The Liver specialist had a cancellation the next day on July 29th, instead of the months-long wait until October.
A Life-Changing Day
What began as a hopeful day of sharing her symptoms and enduring more tests quickly became urgent. The specialist, shocked she was still managing daily life, strongly advised she be admitted immediately.
In the hospital, a skin biopsy and PET scan finally revealed the answer to months of pain and fear: a rare and aggressive form of T-cell lymphoma in her skin.
The diagnosis brought both shock and relief. Shock at the severity, but relief at finally having direction and a path forward.
The Fight Begins
On August 3rd, Miriah began an intense three-day chemotherapy treatment. Her medical team were happy at how well she responded, and after a week in the hospital, she was able to go back home to Waupaca where she could rest in the comfort of her own space.
But this battle is far from over. Just days later, on August 11th, labs revealed dangerously low white blood cell counts. On August 12th, she developed a fever and was re-admitted to UW Madison, where doctors can closely monitor her and manage her symptoms.
How You Can Help
No one is ever prepared for a diagnosis like this- emotionally, physically, or financially. The road ahead will bring hospital stays, travel expenses, specialized treatments, and the reality of being unable to work during recovery.
We are asking the people who know and love Miriah, and even those who have never met her but feel moved by her story - to help in any way possible.
Your donations will go directly toward:
- Medical bills and treatment costs
