My name is Mikita, and I am 34 years old with a wonderful 6-year-old daughter. I have been diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, a chronic condition that causes severe shortness of breath and greatly limits my ability to perform everyday tasks such as walking, cleaning, or even making dance videos with my little girl. The disease also weakens my immune system, which has made it impossible for me to continue working.
I am officially on the lung transplant list—thankfully—and regularly travel to New Orleans for medical appointments. Although the waiting process can be long and uncertain, I want to be as prepared as possible since I could receive the call for my transplant at any moment.
I will need a double lung transplant, which will require me to remain in New Orleans for approximately three to four months after surgery for recovery and follow-up care.
The funds I’m seeking will go toward essential expenses such as bills, food, travel, and lodging, as well as supporting the family members who will take time off work to be by my side during this journey.
