Support Migrants in Khao Lak!

Khao Lak, a collection of villages in the Takua Pa District of southern Thailand’s Phang Nga Province, is home to a large community of Burmese migrants. Most members of the community work in the rubber, hospitality, construction, or fishing industries. Like Burmese migrant communities across Thailand, this community is marginalized, facing discrimination and rights abuses from employers and the government alike.
The Coronavirus pandemic has devastated this community. The pandemic has caused a massive decrease in both tourism and construction, and thus many members of the community find themselves out of work. With little savings, and with little to no support from the Thai government, the community has turned to mutual aid to ensure its most vulnerable members do not go hungry.
Hmine (pictured), an educator, activist, and community leader, has coordinated these mutual aid efforts. He and several other community leaders have raised funds to help community members meet their basic needs (e.g. supplying rice, cooking oil, milk for children, etc.) during this crisis.
