Support Migrant Family Impacted by Flooding

Donation protected
A Burlington-Edison school district student and Vamos participant is remarkable young man and shows up for Vamos every week that programming is available. He has taken advantage of every opportunity that has come his way in the past couple of years, during which his family has fallen on extremely difficult times. He struggles daily with wanting to work to support his family (a single mother and 2 siblings) but also wanting to have the time to commit to his studies and extracurricular activities.
The family of four were living in a very small trailer that is in disrepair and unhealthy, especially during the rainy winter months. This week they had to evacuate due to flooding and will not be able to return. As you may know, Skagit Valley is in the midst of a severe housing shortage. This family submitted an application for Section 8 housing in 2019 and according to the Housing Authority, can expect to wait at least another year and half.
We want to help them avoid homelessness, though it looks like they will be spending some time in a shelter. A small group of educators who are working together to help raise funds to cover the costs for an professional assessment on the trailer and repairs (if they can be made), or a new trailer if possible, until they are able to secure more stable, long term housing.
