About The Project: Purple Window Gallery x STNDRD Exhibitions

To engage the Midwest Art community in an intimate and meaningful way, Purple Window Gallery , Chicago, IL and STNDRD Exhibitions , Granite City IL are facilitating a gallery exchange. Purple Window Gallery will be exhibiting three installations during their curatorial residency at STNDRD Exhibitions between April and September 2025. We are asking for financial support to offer honoraria to our project collaborators and cover travel expenses for these three public art exhibitions.

STNDRD Exhibitions is an artist-run initiative that presents a program of exhibitions, interventions, and projects that are conceptually inspired and physically determined by alternative sites and the cultural, historical, and architectural significance of the communities and landscapes that surround them.

Purple Window Gallery is an artist-led, community-supported project space and gallery located inside Mana Contemporary Chicago. As an artist cooperative, Purple Window Gallery is jointly owned and democratically controlled by its members. These members form a panel of Chicago-based artists devoted to cultivating a sense of community and empowerment for artists both within and outside of city limits. We believe artists and makers need community to thrive and communities need creators to flourish.

Collaborators:

8 midwestern, artist-run spaces collaborate to create a structure that celebrates community connections across five state lines. Each artist-run space will curate a portion of this installation from their community or develop a project from within their organization. Workshop for Independent Publishing will contribute a catalog in the form of a zine to achieve the collaboration and serve as ephemera for exhibitors and visitors to takeaway.

Financial Breakdown:
Some of the costs exceed our means so we've created this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to buy the necessary materials and supplies to ensure successful programming during our curatorial residency with STNDRD Exhibitions. Your support of our GoFundMe will in turn support artists and makers throughout Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Kansas City, Minnesota and the greater Midwest. We greatly appreciate any level of support you're able to offer.

We will use the funds from this GoFundMe campaign to distribute honoraria among community partners ($150 each); for housing accommodations ($300 x 4 trips); gas and travel between Chicago and Granite City, IL ($70 x 4 round trips); and additional support for materials ($220). Total = $2,750

It is important now, more than ever to support artist-run projects as Federal funding has become limited the the wake of anti-DEI measures. We appreciate your support. Please share this campaign for optimal visibility.
