<div><strong>What happened?</strong>
</div>
<div>On August 23, 2024, Michael answered the door and was shot in the head after a brief conversation. Thinking that it was an online friend and that an accident had just occurred, I ran to the door to find blood everywhere, my husband dead, and the perpetrator gone. That was when everything broke for me. I was extremely lucky to not have been killed as well, given how close I was.

<div>There is unfortunately a lot more detail that I hope to share, but given the active criminal case and that I'm considered a witness, it's not time yet.

<div><strong>Our relationship</strong>
</div>
<div>We were together for 20 years (2004-2024) and were high school sweethearts. He was my rock and my best friend through thick and thin as we grew into adults.
</div>

</div>
<div>Michael had a lot of gaming friends from all over the world who were his second family. This has been a shock, and even now, I still get messages from them to let me know they were thinking about him as they continue on their personal journeys.
</div>

<div><strong>Now what...</strong>
</div>
<div>We're all in shock right now and trying to pick up the pieces after this immense loss. It's now just me and our corgi (pictured above as a puppy).

<div>Even two years later, things are still rough financially, especially as...

<li>We've confirmed that there was no life insurance to help cover any expenses

<li>The police still have my phones and other devices (that still have a repayment plan <em>plus monthly required services!)</em>

<li>My sudden change in tax filing status from married to single drastically reduced my income

<div>... among so many other things. I write about them on my blog at times, just to vent my frustration.
