Melanie is facing an unimaginable loss after her husband Mark passed away suddenly. Together, they co-own Javaman coffee shops, which have been a true source of community in Atascocita and Kingwood for many people over the years. Mark’s personality filled every room he entered—he was a champion for the underdog and the oppressed, and he mentored countless young people as they worked to advance or create a career. Mark had a gruff presentation, but a soft, good heart, and his presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He especially loved to debate sports or politics, bringing lively conversation to every gathering.

 Mark and Melanie have always been the first to help their friends, family, and customers whenever the situation called for it. Whether offering a place to stay, extending a monetary act of charity, or simply providing an empathic ear, they have been there for others in times of need. Now, Melanie is not only grieving the loss of her beloved partner, but also facing unexpected funeral expenses and outstanding business costs, all while trying to plan her next steps for the Javaman coffee shops and her own future.
