Struggle In Her Family
At just the small age of 14, Manavi has already seen more than most people would have in their lifetime. Born out of love but raised in pain, she grew up watching her mother struggle. Her mother’s love story with her father was once an act of her mother’s rebellion against her parents. Her mother had to go against her family’s will and leave everyone on her family side to marry her love of life. However, soon after her marriage, their relationship crumbled under the weight of reality. So their love alone wasn’t enough. As Manavi grew, she saw the cracks in their home widen, the silent suffering of her mother, the loneliness in her eyes. When her mother finally sought help, the doors of her past—her parents and her brother - remained shut. They had disowned her, considering her dead the moment she defied them.
Shining Light In Her Family
But fate didn’t leave them entirely alone. There was one person, one shining light in their darkness—her Thulmummy (her mom’s elder sister), Leenu Thapa. She was the only one who chose love over judgment, family over mistakes. She took them in, raised Manavi as her own, and fought their battles as if they were hers. It was under her and ThulDaddy (Thulmummy’s husband) care that Manavi finally felt what a real family should be with their 2 sons and felt the love, warmth, and security that she had missed.
First Diagnosis
As Manavi’s family life was getting better, at the age of 9, her sudden illness led to her diagnosis of Leukemia (Blood Cancer). The doctors said it would be a very tough fight. The word alone sent shockwaves through the family. Her mother broke down, while her Thulmummy and Thuldaddy stood strong and held the family together.
Her Thulmummy and Thuldaddy did everything possible, ensuring she got the best treatment. It was a very painful moment and very exhausting, but Manavi turned out to be a warrior. She started feeling better from her treatment, proving that she was stronger than her sickness. During that time, she even became an inspiration to others, visiting hospitals and encouraging cancer patients not to give up.
Her school became her second home, her teachers called her an idol of resilience, and she had a new purpose—to live, to succeed, to make her mother proud and to repay the love of those who never left her side. And she was doing great.
Cancer Relapse
Everything was going well until she turned 14 and as she was preparing for her SEE exams (one of the major board exams in Nepal). Another visit to hospital brought the devastating news again—her cancer had relapsed. This time, it was worse. The only chance of survival was an expensive bone marrow transplant with immunotherapy, costing over 2 crore nepali rupees (1,50,000 USD). And not to mention the cost for chemotherapy and expensive medicines.
She had already lost her father—though not to death, but to abandonment. And she had already lost a part of her childhood to sickness at the age of 9 and now this happened again.
Her thulmummy and thuldaddy started fighting again with the situation, gathering resources, doing everything they could to save her. And Manavi, despite the fear, despite the pain, held onto one thing—hope.
Her fight is still going on. She doesn't know what the future holds, but she knows one thing—she has a family who love her beyond words and can do anything for her survival. She has a very tough mental strength and strong hope to live.
And yes the world is filled with lovely people who might help her live.
Thank you!
