<div>Maggie, my sister, has been diagnosed with a meningioma, a benign brain tumor. Sadly, this is the second one in her forty years on this earth. There are no known causes for meningiomas and there was only a 10% chance another one would grow. In her 10th year of recovery we have discovered that Maggie falls within that small percentage.

<div>Maggie's boyfriend Beau and myself will be acting as her primary care givers. This will entail around the clock care for Maggie for the first few weeks post-op followed by months of appointments, physical rehabilitation and a variety of unknown scenarios that could pop up at any time after her surgery. The goal for Beau and I is to be able to give Maggie our undivided attention as she navigates life post brain surgery.

<div>It is no secret that the cost of living is astronomical right now and the level of care that Maggie is going to need means that Beau and I will not be able to work very much if at all during this time. We will need to be able to be "on-call" so to speak, as Maggies recovery will be our first priority.

<div>Due to the nature of Maggie's insurance plan, she cannot apply for in-home care from the state or hospital until she has had a disability for 12 months. There are no options for people in our position to get help with the day-to-day needs in order for life to go on while we help rebuild Maggie's life and health from the ground up for the second time in a decade. Rent needs to be paid, the gas tank will most certainly need to be full and food needs to go on the table.

<div>Maggie's diagnosis came in April, and I've already had to miss out on income to assist her  and myself through this nightmare. She should have had this surgery weeks ago, and it is only because of unforeseeable circumstances that she has been unable to have the procedure. Maggie simply cannot do this on her own.

<div>Writing a go fund me page is a humbling experience, and I do not take requesting money from anyone lightly. I could go on and on about the horrors I have experienced while attempting to navigate the medical and insurance system in place, but I will spare you.
