<div>Axton "Luka" Djurica was born December 14th, 2023. We knew before he was born that he had several major heart defects including, Heterotaxy Syndrome with asplenia, TAPVR, unbalanced AV canal, d-TGA, and DORV. We were told he would not survive surgery, so we decided to let him live as happily as he could for as long as we had him. The Drs thought he would pass within days or weeks, but Luka decided to prove them wrong. We went looking for a second opinion and found out about Boston Children's Hospital. They are world leaders in Heterotaxy and bi-ventricular heart repairs. After reaching out, they said he was a good candidate for their program and Luka, myself and Vanja made our way to Boston on April 30th.

<div>After several procedures, Luka had his open heart surgery on May 14th, when he turned 5 months old. Unfortunately, he has experienced several complications. He is in acute renal failure, and currently undergoing hemodialysis. He also had an abdominal surgery to remove a section of bowel that died and was leaking bile, causing infection. They have finally closed his chest and belly, while giving him an ostomy until he is in better health and it can be reversed. He is still fully supported by ventilator and sedated for comfort and safety.

<div>This has been a long and difficult road for everyone in our family, and we still have a long road ahead. We have decided to share Luka's story, and start this gofundme, so that everyone that loves and cares about us, and him, can show their support in any way possible. This is only one small step in his heart journey. There will be more heart surgeries in his future to repair his heart to function as normally and optimally as possible. We are still unsure of his future but we know he will forever be loved and supported.

<div>I will try to make major updates as they occur. Thank you for taking the time to read this and helping us support our Luka in any way possible.
