My name is Alexandra, and I started Louie’s Last Gift in honor of my best friend, my dog Louie, who peacefully passed away on June 17th, 2025 after a short battle with prostate cancer.

He hated going to the vet, his whole body would shake the second we walked through those doors. So when the time came, I knew in my heart that I couldn’t let his last moments be filled with fear and fluorescent lights.

I made the decision to let him pass at home. Surrounded by his brothers and sisters. Held by the people who loved him most. In his favorite spot, safe and warm. It was the most sacred, heartbreaking, and beautiful gift I could give him, and I’m forever grateful I was able to do that.

But I also know that so many people can’t.

Louie’s Last Gift is a fund I created to help families afford at-home euthanasia for their pets, so pets can take their last breath where they feel safest, at home, and so families don’t have to carry the emotional and financial weight of choosing between peace and affordability.

At-home euthanasia typically costs $600–$1,000. It's an incredibly meaningful option, but for many families, that cost can feel overwhelming, especially during a time already filled with grief.

I created Louie’s Last Gift to ease that burden, even a little. To give more pets a chance to pass in comfort, and more people the chance to give their animals the goodbye they truly deserve..
