Who I Am
Hi, I’m Lissie Albornoz, and I’m asking for your support to continue my journey towards becoming a lawyer in the United States. Originally from Venezuela, I’ve been a practicing lawyer since 2006. Now, I’m pursuing my dream of furthering my legal education in the U.S. to make a real difference in people’s lives. I also share my experiences and insights on my blog https://lissiealbornoz.com/blog, where I hope to inspire and help others who are on a similar path.
My Journey
I’m currently a second-year law student at the University of Miami School of Law, working towards a Joint Degree in Juris Doctor (JD) and International LL.M. in U.S. and Transnational Law. My passion for justice has brought me this far, and I’m determined to use my education to positively impact my community and beyond.
I began as an LL.M. student, but after excelling in my studies, I applied to transfer my credits to the JD program, which is very competitive. I was accepted in January 2024 and now, by December 2025, I’ll have earned both degrees. This will equip me with the knowledge and skills to truly make a difference in the legal field.
Why I Need Your Help
For the last six years, I worked full-time as a civil litigation paralegal, earning a good salary to support my family. However, since starting law school, I’ve had to switch to part-time work as a law clerk. These positions offer great experience but don’t pay enough to cover my tuition or living expenses.
This has put me in a tough financial spot. Your support is crucial. It will help me stay in school and focus on my studies. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me closer to achieving my dream of becoming a lawyer who serves and uplifts others.
How Your Support Will Make a Difference
Your donation will directly help me continue my education and pursue my JD and LL.M. degrees. With your support, I will:
• Advocate for immigrant rights and provide legal help to vulnerable communities.
• Continue my volunteer work with organizations like My Voice Counts Inc.
• Support the Hispanic community through my future legal practice.
My Commitment to Giving Back
Giving back to my community has always been important to me. As a volunteer with My Voice Counts Inc., I’ve delivered reports to Congress to support the Venezuelan Adjustment Act and advocate for Venezuelan professionals in the U.S. I’ve also volunteered with the ACLU to support detainees' rights and well-being.
My goal is to become an attorney, using my skills to help those in need. When I graduate, I am committed to giving back by offering scholarships to students who, like me, face significant financial barriers to pursuing their education. My goal is to pay forward any help I receive by supporting the next generation of aspiring lawyers. I am dedicated to making a meaningful impact and inspiring others to do the same.
Join Me on This Journey
Your belief in my journey means the world to me. With your support, I can keep moving forward and continue working towards making a difference. I’m incredibly grateful for any help you can provide, and I look forward to sharing my progress with you as I continue on this path.
Thank you for being a part of my journey.
With heartfelt appreciation,
