<div>My name is Becky Kaufman. Lisa is one of my dearest friends. For those who don’t know, Timothy Murphy, Lisa’s son, lost his battle with depression and died December 13th, 2024.

<div>The funds I’m raising will be used primarily to cover cremation and other final expenses associated with Timothy’s passing.

<div>Funds are also very much needed to cover the unexpected expenses for continuing care of Timothy’s beloved German Shepherd, Amber.

<div>Additionally, I’m hoping to raise enough funds to help Lisa take very needed time off from work to grieve, as she has been working feverishly to meet deadlines, even while having to navigate this terrible tragedy.

<div>With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Timothy Joseph Murphy, aged 32, who tragically took his own life on Friday, December 13, 2024. Born on July 7, 1992, Timothy was the beloved son of Lisa Logan and the late Joseph Murphy, and brother to Colleen and Stephen. He also leaves behind his dog, Amber, who was a faithful companion through his life.

<div>Timothy was an extraordinary person—an avid scholar, a brilliant chemist, a creator, and a compassionate soul with a deep love for both the sciences and the arts. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and was just one semester away from completing his second degree in Engineering. Timothy was also a published author, contributing his expertise and intellectual insights to the field of chemistry. His ability to absorb vast amounts of information and his wide-ranging knowledge were a constant inspiration to those around him.

<div>He was also known for his adventurous spirit and many passions. As a ski instructor, Timothy dedicated much of his time to teaching and helping young children learn to ski. He found immense joy in seeing them progress and develop confidence on the slopes. Back in the day, he was also very impressive on the park slopes, known for his skill and flair. Timothy embraced every opportunity to push his limits, and his love for skiing was something he shared with others.

<div>A true burner, Timothy immersed himself in the creative community of Burning Man, where he connected with others and embraced the ethos of freedom, expression, and collaboration. An artist and problem solver, he was always creating, building, and sharing ideas. He had an innate ability to turn his passions into tangible works of art, whether in the form of physical creations or innovative solutions.

<div>Timothy’s greatest gift, however, was his ability to connect with others. He was a loyal friend, a thoughtful listener, and someone who made people feel truly seen and heard. He had a unique ability to relate to those who struggled with the same issues he faced. Despite his own battles, Timothy’s true passion was helping others.

<div>Though his life was cut short by mental illness, Timothy’s legacy lives on in the love and memories he created. He had been struggling with mental health issues since childhood. What began as depression grew into manic psychosis over the past few years, and though he sought help from multiple specialists and was surrounded by a loving family, friends, and community, he ultimately felt that there was no other way out.

<div>We know that many of you may feel conflicted, especially toward the end of his life, when it became harder to distinguish his true essence from his illness. We believe—and perhaps, for our own peace, we must believe—that the anger, fear, and actions caused by his sickness were not his true self. The kindness, humor, empathy, and passion for life were who he truly was. Those beautiful memories you have of Timothy—the jokes, the love, the genuine curiosity and care for others—are a reflection of his true nature. He wanted nothing more than to be your friend.

<div>We also want to say this: Please, please don’t feel bad for giving yourself space when you needed it. We need to protect our own energy before we can help others. Timothy was not only a brilliant and loving person, but he was also deeply sorry for the pain he caused. One of the last moments I shared with him, he was crying and sincerely apologized to me for the hurt he may have caused. He wanted to make things right. I truly believe that he was sorry for the ways his illness affected those he loved.

<div>In honor of Timothy’s memory, his family encourages others to prioritize mental health, seek help when needed, and show compassion toward those facing their own battles. Timothy believed in the power of connection, and we hope his story serves as a reminder to offer support to those who need it most.
</div>

<div>We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who showed their love, support, and kindness to Timothy throughout his life. Your care meant the world to him and to us, and it continues to provide comfort during this difficult time. The kindness and empathy you offered him never went unnoticed, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
</div>

<div>Timothy was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his loss is felt by all who knew him. He leaves behind his mother, Lisa; sister, Colleen; and me, his brother Stephen. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph.
</div>
<div>Timothy’s suffering is over, and we find comfort in the belief that he has found peace.
