I met Lisbeth "Lis" Simmons and her family over 30 years ago, and in all that time, I have never known anyone as loving, giving, and selfless as Lis. Even when she didn’t have much herself, she always found a way to help anyone she came in contact with. Lis has faced her own trials and medical issues with incredible strength and without complaint, and I am certain she has given thousands of hours in service to others. She cared for her mother until the very end, as well as a special aunt, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Now, Lis is facing her greatest challenge yet—she has been diagnosed with ALS, which is causing her to lose her mobility. Despite this, her spirit remains unbreakable. The family has managed to get a wheelchair specially designed for ALS patients, but they now need a van to help transport the wheelchair for medical appointments and daily needs. They are also facing the reality of final expenses, including funeral costs for Lis and her beloved husband, Steve. Lis and her family are incredibly humble and frugal, never asking for more than they need, but I would love to see them have something that truly honors their lives and the love they have given to so many.
These funds will help purchase a wheelchair-accessible van—ideally one that is already equipped, so they don’t have to worry about modifications. It will also help cover the costs of caskets and all the expenses that come with funerals. Lis has touched hundreds, if not thousands, of lives with her love, service, and generosity. If you know this family, or even if you just want to help a truly deserving family, please consider giving. Anything you can contribute will be deeply appreciated and will make a real difference in their lives.
