Rebuild Linstead St. Catherine: Support Hurricane Relief

Donation protected
My name is Nadia Domeraski and i currently reside in a small town in South Jersey USA, and I am organizing a Hurricane Relief Barrel Drive and Fundraiser to support families in Linstead, St. Catherine, Jamaica, a community that has personally touched my life and embraced me with warmth and open arms.

I am a senior nursing student at Rutgers University in New Brunswick NJ, studying at the Blackwood off-campus location. Throughout my nursing journey, I have dedicated myself to helping people in their most vulnerable moments. Nursing has taught me that compassion and service extend far beyond hospital walls; they begin in the community. This is why I feel called to help Linstead during this difficult time.

When Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica, it left behind devastation that many are still recovering from. Homes were damaged, schools were destroyed, and families lost basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter. While major cities often receive support quickly, smaller towns like Linstead, St. Catherine, are frequently left waiting for help that rarely comes.

One of the most devastating losses was the damage to The Bourne Gordon’s Group of Schools, an important part of the community that has educated generations of children. Classrooms, school materials, and parts of the building were severely damaged during the storm.

This school holds a special place in my heart because it welcomed my daughter with open arms during her visit to Jamaica. She was given the opportunity to experience Jamaica’s rich culture, history, and educational traditions. She learned how the teachers in Linstead use creativity, discipline, and cultural pride to educate their students, and it left a lasting impression on both of us. The staff and students treated her like family, showing her what true community looks like.

Your donations will help bring both immediate relief and long-term rebuilding to Linstead, St. Catherine, Jamaica.

Funds will be used to:

• Cover shipping and customs fees for barrels filled with food, clothing, hygiene items, and school supplies being sent from the United States
• Purchase non-perishable food, first aid kits, and household essentials for families in need
• Rebuild and repair damaged homes to provide safe living conditions for families
• Assist in the restoration and reconstruction of The Bourne Gordon’s Group of Schools in Linstead, St. Catherine, Jamaica
• Provide new school supplies, books, and educational materials for the students

Funds designated for the school will be delivered directly to the school’s owners and principals, Mrs. Salome Bourne-Gordon and Mr. Talbert Gordon, who are leading the rebuilding efforts and ensuring that all resources are used responsibly to help the children and families of the community.

The people of Linstead have shown my family nothing but love, especially toward my daughter, who was welcomed into their classrooms and their culture with open arms. Now I’m asking my own community here in the United States to open their hearts to them in return. Together, we can help rebuild homes, restore classrooms, and bring hope back to families who deserve to feel supported and seen.

As a future nurse and community advocate, I believe in transparency and accountability. I will be sharing regular updates, photos, and videos throughout this process, from packing and shipping barrels to distributing supplies and showing the progress made at The Bourne Gordon’s Group of Schools. Donors will be able to see the real impact their contributions are making.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a difference. Your kindness will provide food to the hungry, clothing to those who have lost everything, and education to children who deserve a safe place to learn.

Thank you for taking the time to read, share, and support this mission. Together, we can show the people of Linstead, St. Catherine, Jamaica that they are not forgotten, and that compassion, unity, and love can rebuild what the storm has taken away.
