<div>Unfortunately, my sweet niece, <strong>Lexi Jacobsmeyer</strong>, was diagnosed with breast cancer last month. She is 23 years old and has no family history of breast cancer on either side. This has been a completely unexpected and heartbreaking turn of events for our family. She will soon be having a double mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and possible radiation treatment. The chemotherapy puts her fertility at risk, so she will also undergo egg harvesting to help ensure she has the possibility<strong> </strong>of starting a family in the future. These circumstances are not only physically taxing but also devastating to a 23-year-old. It is far more than she should have to face. These are significant life changes that affect her future. She will require extensive medical follow-up for years, along with medication and potential fertility treatments. Insurance does not cover all of these costs, and the medical bills will be strenuous for Lexi to cover given her stage in life. Lexi is a full-time graduate student and is scheduled to graduate with her Master’s in Speech Language Pathology in May. For some time, Lexi has aspired to help NICU babies and their families. This past year has been especially challenging for Lexi as she was diagnosed with a seizure disorder, which has presented her with many obstacles. Her journey to get where she is now hasn’t been easy—and the road ahead of her won’t be either—but with her relentless determination, she has achieved greatly and will continue to do so. Her strong faith and perseverance will guide her on this difficult path. I know many people have asked how they can help. To those who are inclined, whether it be in the form of thought, prayer, or assisting with Lexi’s new financial burden, your contribution is greatly appreciated and is of great use to our dear Lexi.
