 Leila Aiono and Izabella Mailo, student athletes from Hunter High School, West Valley City have been selected to participate in the first inaugural POWER SHOWCASE World Classic in Miami, Florida in November. This is a power hitting (baseball) competition that has been going for 19 years and this is the first year they have expanded it to include females (softball). Historically, over 50% of the participants were drafted to the pros and many others played at high collegiate levels. Only 44 female high school athletes in the COUNTRY get to participate and we've got TWO of them right here!

 Leila Aiono (class of 2028) and Izabella Mailo (class of 2029) both play for the Hunter High School softball team. Their hitting performance in the spring 2026 season is what landed them this ground-breaking opportunity.

 As a sophomore, Leila hit 16 varsity homeruns which placed her 5th overall in the state of Utah and 1st place in the sophomore class of Utah. She was awarded First Team All-Region (5A Region IV), Academic All-Region, and All-State Honorable Mention.

 As a freshman, Iza hit 25 homeruns placing her 2nd overall in the state of Utah and 1st place nationally for the class of 2029. She was awarded the 5A region IV MVP, First Team All-State, and Academic All-Region.

 Both of these young women are proud to be from West Valley and are excited to show what good can come from their city. Leila is currently serving in her second year of being on the West Valley City Youth Council and Iza is serving her first year with them. So many people associate West Valley with the negative stories about gangs, drugs, and crime. These two remarkable young women are on a mission to prove that good things come from West Valley too.

 Not only are they proud to represent Utah, they are both also honored to represent the Polynesian community, specifically their Samoan heritage.

 This is an incredible opportunity to not only these girls individually, but also to put Utah softball players on the map as a whole, and in taking a step forward in equalizing women's sports and creating opportunities for future female athletes.
