<div>Over the past year Lee has endured several unimaginable medical issues. In January 2024, he suffered a badly broken leg, requiring back to back surgeries to repair the fracture. In March 2024, he was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor that required invasive surgery to remove.

<div>Then this January, Lee and his family received the devastating and terminal diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

<div>ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease causing muscle weakness, paralysis, and eventual respiratory system failure. Despite being known for over a century, it remains severely underfunded, and approved treatments only slow progression and extend survival by a few months.  
</div>

</div>
<div>Although ALS has no known cure, the last few years have brought significant growth in research on ALS, including its underlying mechanisms and potential early-stage therapies. Sadly, the disease remains terminal, typically within 2-4 years after the onset of symptoms and diagnosis.

<div>Lee has dedicated his life to serving his country and his community. He spent 14 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, 5 years as a BC Sheriff, and the past 18 years with the Vancouver Police Department. While facing his deadly diagnosis, he still maintains a positive attitude and plans to continue to work every day and be with his team. In addition to being a loving father, son, and brother, Lee is also a dear friend to so many of us.

<div>Everyone that knows Lee knows he’s a quiet guy that never asks for anything. An avid cyclist and athlete, he has devoted so much of his spare time to riding in 6 Cops for Cancer rides, helping raise millions for pediatric cancer research and programs.

<div>Lee would never ask, but he needs our help to fight ALS. The money donated will assist with medical expenses not covered by MSP and extended benefits, and allow for potential experimental therapies/medical trials, assist with potential renovations for home that may be required as the disease progresses and fund memorable experiences for Lee and his family. A portion of every donation will go to the ALS Society of BC.
