<div>My name is Catherine Carty, and I am a friend and classmate of Lawrence Abakah at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas, Class of 2026.

<div>Since May, Lawrence has been facing a life-altering medical challenge. He was initially diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)—a rare autoimmune disorder that attacks the nerves and causes progressive weakness and sensory loss. What began as a few concerning symptoms quickly escalated into a serious condition involving loss of mobility that has required intensive and ongoing treatment. Today, our incredible medical professionals treating Lawerence are not quite sure if CIDP is the correct diagnosis &amp; are now trying a series of other treatments to determine exactly what auto-immune disease our friend Lawrence is facing.

<div>Over the past few months, Lawrence has undergone a series of infusions, plasma exchanges, MRIs, spinal taps, biopsies, and more. He spent several months as an inpatient at Dell Medical Center in Austin and is now continuing treatment at the Texas Neuro Lab. Throughout all of this, Lawrence has shown incredible strength, courage, and grace.

<div>But this journey has come with significant financial strain. The cost of long-term hospitalization, rehabilitation, and specialized care is overwhelming for his family. They’ve been doing everything they can, but they need our help.
